About your LGPS Pension       

Tower Hamlets Pension Fund is part of the National Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).

Our membership covers all Tower Hamlets Council staff including support staff in schools and a number of staff who have been outsourced to private companies, these companies are Admitted Bodies in the Fund.  The Fund also has staff from a number of colleges and academies. 

The Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) is a statutory, funded pension scheme. As such it is very secure because its benefits are defined and set out in law.

Your pension is secure and the benefits you will receive on retirement are based on membership in the scheme, accruing with every year you are a member. This type of scheme is called a Defined Benefit Scheme.

Teachers' and NHS staff have their own scheme and are not part of the Tower Hamlets Pension Fund.

The Tower Hamlets Pension Fund not only provides you with a regular income after you retire but can also provide a lump sum. It also gives financial protection to your family or other dependents after you die.

Tower Hamlets’ own fund membership at 31st March 2016 was just over 19,800 which included some 7,022 active members, 5,643 pensioners and 7,145 deferred pensioners.
